There is this sudden buzz on Twitter and Face book about this documentary called Welcome To Lagos which is shown on BBC 2 in the UK. It is a documentary which goes into some of the people who live in the city of Lagos. They are not the rich and glamorous inhabitants of Lagos shown in the Nigerian movies living in fancy houses and driving flashy cars. These are the real people who struggle day after day to live a stable life and with the little or no resources they have they seem to be suffering and smiling. It shocked me to find out that there are over 16million people who live in the city of Lagos. Lagos is not even as big as the state of California and it has that many inhabitants. The scavengers at the dumpster , the people who sell cattle and those that live in the swampy area called Makoko were featured in the episodes that i watched.
There are lessons that can be learned from this documentary. Everyone wakes up each day to continue their struggle in this life. These men have a lot of challenges and they react to these challenges in such a manner that is boast worthy. I remember one of the men who was a father and had two daughters and what touched me in one of his comments was that he wouldn't mind picking up rubbish in a much more stinkier dumpster for his family. He was determined to make his family live a better life as he was not opportuned to do so due to the untimely death of his mother. Vocal Slender an upcoming music artist picked up trash in order to make a his singing dream come true. With this said i believe that this is a must watch documentary for anyone. If you think you have it that bad, someone probably has it worse. Be thankful. Everyday.

Oh wow! I heard about that documentary! It's so sad the way so many people are suffering in this country!! What you said makes me wonder- what can we do if we're desperate enough?
